What is a Space Cowboy?

Heroes of Yesterday

As we open the frontier of space we stand on the shoulders of giants.  The pioneers who put their lives on the line to lay the foundation on which we stand are true heroes, who took a chance on a dream and helped to make it happen. The Space Cowboy Gala and Ball is a landmark special event to celebrate their achievements and honor their work, offering their example to generations yet to come.

Heroes of Today

Today’s space heroes are a new breed of can-do entrepreneurs, engineers, investors and scientists who are throwing open the airlock to space. They are leading new projects, new companies, and new initiatives to create a new space economy, The heroes of today are expanding the trail blazed by the first explorers into a highway, and transforming the first outposts into cities in the sky.

Heroes of Tomorrow

The explorers, pioneers and settlers of tomorrow are sitting in the classrooms of today. Our goal is to make those dreams real and to prepare them for the job. But more than that, we want to inspire them for life. As a part of this effort, the Space Cowboy Ball will honor the student winner of our Cities in Space design contest, a part of the New Worlds STEAM SPACE program.

Hosts Laetitia & Richard Garriott, Marcy & Robert Rodriguez, and Founder Rick Tumlinson cordially invite you to the

What to Wear in 2117?

It’s a hundred years in future and you’ve been invited to a formal party on Mars. Think FireFly, Expanse, Kill Joys, BladeRunner, Star Wars, STEAM Punk, Old West…(toga?)

Imagine a high-end party on a frontier world of tomorrow. It’s time to dress up, show off and be your own hero. Be it a simple 20th century (retro) suit, Texas tuxedo, top hat and tails, a waistcoat or sci fi inspired gown, the SCG is designed to put the cool into space, and the Texas into tomorrow. After all, this is Austin, where weird meets wonderful and the Wild West meets New Worlds!

New Worlds Conference

You’ve heard about the rockets. Now come hear about where they’re going, why they’re going and who will ride them to New Worlds. Nov. 10-11 in Austin, Texas, world class scientists, experts and engineers will join the newest minds and future leaders to explain, discuss and debate the challenges and solutions we face in space. Entrepreneurs and financial experts will talk about new businesses and ways to pay for these new communities. Astronauts will tell us what it is like out there. Artists will show us what it will be like tomorrow. Makers will show us how they will make what we need to live. And in the next room, over 750 high school kids will design their own cities on the Moon and Mars.

New Worlds is the only space event where YOU are part of the action. Imagine high level papers on topics like farming on Mars and building colonies on the Moon, along with business plans for tomorrow’s new space companies. Then the sharks go in, and you decide who wins the cash prizes. Old ideas will be challenged. New ideas will be presented. And YOU will vote for the best. And then, to wrap it all up, the coolest space costume ball on the planet!

Benefiting New Worlds

Within 25 years the first settlers are going to Mars. This means many of them are alive right now. Help us prepare them and the tools they will need to open the frontier.

New Worlds supports many different activities to catalyze and support the settlement of space. From the investigations and innovations of the New Worlds Institute to our S.T.E.A.M. Space education projects, our goal is to create the leaders, engineers, explorers, and builders of tomorrow, and to supply them with the knowledge, technology and culture they will need to open the New Worlds of space.
